The difference between dry and dehydrated skin.

November 7, 2019

Have you ever wondered if there was a difference between dry and dehydrated skin? Perhaps you’ve found yourself reading product labels that contain either or both of the words, and you’ve felt a little stumped as to the potential difference between the two. Well, it turns out there is a difference, and in the case of treating your skin, the difference is actually pretty important.

Dry skin is skin that is lacking in moisture via essential fatty acids, while dehydrated skin needs actual moisture in the form of water. It is absolutely possible to find skincare products that target both of these issues at the same time, but you will most likely be using different ingredients for each purpose. For example, if you were trying to find a moisturizing cream or serum, you would want to focus on ingredients such as Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil, while skin that is dehydrated would benefit from Aloe Vera and Botanical Hyaluronic Acid.

Shea butter is particularly high in the deeply moisturizing and skin cell lubricating essential fatty acid known as Oleic Acid, while Jojoba oil contains a full spectrum of moisturizing vitamin E and a balancing essential fatty acid profile that actually helps your skin better moisturize itself via the sebum it produces.

Aloe Vera is known throughout the world for its juicy nature in the face of dry, intense heat, and it imparts this same juiciness to dehydrated skin via it’s polysaccharides and amino acids that help the skin to retain water.  Botanical Hyaluronic Acid has the incredible ability of attracting and holding up to 1000x it’s own weight in water, making it an absolutely incredible skin cell hydrating substance.

Most people find that they can benefit from both types of ingredients, allowing their skin to be more balanced in it’s water content and in its soft and smooth texture that comes as a result of regular essential fatty acid application. For skincare that makes a tangible difference, combine a few, or all of the above-mentioned ingredients for plump, soft, and balanced skin that shines.

At Vie by Shanti we proudly include these healing ingredients in all of our skincare formulations.

Thank you for reading!  May each day be filled with joy, purpose and may you always live inspired
